1. About cookies and local storage
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser and that are sent back on each visit. Local storage (localStorage) and session storage (sessionStorage) are similar, but their contents stay in your browser and are not sent to us automatically.
2. In short
Berry uses only strictly necessary cookies and storage to provide the service you asked for: keeping you signed in, showing the app in the language you chose and remembering your display preferences.
We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, neither our own nor anyone else's. That is why we do not show you a cookie banner: under Article 4(5) of Romanian Law No. 506/2004 and the EU ePrivacy Directive, storage that is strictly necessary for a service you requested does not require consent. If we ever add cookies that need your consent, we will ask you before setting them.
3. Cookies we set
- sb-…-auth-token – keeps you signed in to the app (the Supabase session). Duration: until you sign out (at most about 400 days); renewed while you use the app. Strictly necessary.
- NEXT_LOCALE – remembers the language you explicitly chose. Duration: 1 year. Strictly necessary (functional, set only when you choose a language).
- …-onboarded – remembers that you completed the first steps (terms, location) so we don't check them on every page. Duration: 1 year or until you sign out. Strictly necessary.
- …-loc-skipped – remembers on this device that you chose "Not now" for location consent. Duration: 1 year. Strictly necessary.
All of them are first-party cookies (set by Berry on its own domain); none is used for advertising or to follow you across other websites.
4. Local and session storage
Berry keeps a few things in your browser, without sending them to us:
- your chosen theme (light, dark or automatic);
- your preferred Feed view (sections or list);
- the map app you chose for "Directions" (Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze);
- whether you have already answered the notifications question on this device and whether you declined the passkey offer;
- a copy of the last Feed you loaded (public alerts only), so it loads faster and can be shown offline;
- in session storage (cleared when you close the tab): the draft of an alert you are posting, your scroll position and the notices you dismissed.
5. Working offline
Berry is a progressive web app. A "service worker" keeps the app's files (code, styles, the offline page) in your browser's cache so that it loads quickly and can show a message when you have no connection. These files contain no personal data.
6. Third-party services
- Map: your browser downloads the map images directly from OpenFreeMap. This sets no Berry cookies, but OpenFreeMap sees your IP address and the area displayed (see the Privacy policy).
- Payments: when you pay, you are redirected to the Stripe Checkout page or the Stripe billing portal, on Stripe's domain. Stripe may set its own cookies there, needed for the payment and for fraud prevention, under its own cookie policy.
7. Your choices
You can view and delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. If you block or delete the strictly necessary cookies, you will be signed out and some features (such as signing in) will stop working. You can sign out at any time from Profile.
8. Changes
We update this page whenever we add, change or remove a cookie. The date at the top shows the latest version.
